New drug to help Type 2 diabetics lose weight being launched in UK
July 7th, 2009 - 2:51 pm ICT by ANILondon, July 7 (ANI): A new revolutionary drug, called Victoza, for diabetes patients is being launched in Britain.
The drug, also known as Liraglutide, can help bring down weight by making users feel “full” for longer period of time, as well as slowing down the rate at which the stomach empties.
Victoza is for Type 2 diabetes sufferers, majority of whom are overweight or obese, and needs to be taken just once-a-day at any time.
“Liraglutide widens the choice of treatment for people with Type 2 diabetes that not only offer improved blood glucose but also aid weight loss,” Sky News quoted Cathy Moulton, from Diabetes UK, as saying.
“Good diabetes management reduces the risk of developing serious complications including heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, blindness and amputation,” she added.
Victoza, which lets the body to only release insulin when blood sugar levels become reach a very high level, can also be used alongside other drugs.
It also lowers blood pressure, bringing down the risk of heart disease. (ANI)
