Mysterious crop circle depicting giant hummingbird appears in British barley field
July 6th, 2009 - 3:04 pm ICT by ANILondon, July 6 (ANI): Reports indicate that a mysterious crop circle depicting a 300 feet-long hummingbird has appeared in a barley field in Wiltshire, a county in England.
Crop circles are patterns created by the flattening of crops such as wheat, barley, rapeseed, rye, corn, linseed and soy.
Various hypotheses have been offered to explain the formation of crop circles of unknown origin, ranging from the naturalistic to the paranormal.
According to a report in the Telegraph, crop circle hunters in Alton Barnes photographed the latest discovery.
The enormous pattern formed around a dew pond in a field and has left crop circle experts scratching their heads for a meaning.
The design echoes the giant jellyfish that appeared in an Oxfordshire field in early June, sparking conspiracy theories about the meaning of the huge number of patterns appearing in fields across the country.
“This is the first crop circle in the world to include real water elements, so it is very exciting,” said Karen Alexander, a crop circle expert.
“The area of Wiltshire where it has appeared is known for its chalk hills and for being quite a dry land, so it is even stranger that it should appear there,” she added.
“We believe it is a close relative of the jellyfish crop circle which appeared earlier in June, but beyond that we are still trying to decode the message of it,” she explained.
“There are a myriad of theories about what these crop circles are trying to tell us, but at the moment we are no closer to knowing the truth. It is incredibly exciting,” she said.
Crop circle theorists, known as ‘croppies’, believe that the patterns are created by UFOs during nocturnal visits, or caused by natural phenomena such as unusual forms of lightning striking the earth. (ANI)
