Meet Ipswich Towns most determined fansApril 3rd, 2008 - 5:47 pm ICT by admin
London , Apr 3 (ANI): The passion for sports certainly has no limits for this football crazy father-son duo, who make a 1000-mile round trip from Scotland every fortnight - just to watch their beloved team Ipswich Town play.
Martin Amos and his 7-year-old son Dexter fly from Fife for cheering their favourite team Tractor Boys at every home game. In fact, they are so much in love with manager Jim Magilton’s Championship side that they have already renewed their season tickets.
Martin, who is a marketing manager, got hooked to the game and the team in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex , and has been an ardent fan of the Portman Road team since moving north of the Border in 1992.
“Since I moved, I took in two or three Town games a season, mainly at bank holiday times. Last season I took Dexter to some matches - he loved it. So this campaign I bought two season tickets and we have missed just one Saturday game - the home FA Cup defeat by Portsmouth when it was my wife Bernice’s birthday, the Daily Record quoted Martin, as saying.
She is happy for us to travel to Suffolk every two weeks and, with Ipswich ’s wonderful home record, it is money well spent, he added.
On the day of the match, Martin and Dexters itinerary requires them to wake up at 7am to make the journey to East Anglia and they finally return to their Dunfermline home in time to watch Match of the Day - after a 924-mile round trip.
In fact, Martin has to dish out 200 pounds for their airfares to watch every home match.
“We fly down with some West Ham fans sometimes but I have yet to meet any Ipswich ones. There are often Celtic and Rangers supporters travelling in the opposite direction, said Martin.
However, for evening games, he prefers travelling on his own, staying overnight at a pub in nearby St Osyth run by his mum Barbara.
Martin said he is confident that his commitment will pay off with the side returning to the Premier League for the first time since 2002.
“I’m sure we can do it,” he said. (ANI)
