As we are stepping more and more towards modernization we are at the same time coming across new discoveries that play a very crucial role in hindering our advances. Just a few hours ago scientists have come across a new virus. They have identified the virus to be lethal, which causes similar symptoms like bleeding when attacked by the dreaded virus named Ebola. The virus is being referred to as the Lujo virus and it infected five individuals from South Africa and Zambia. Out of the five people infected, four died and one has survived. Scientists feel that the cause of this survival is the proper intake of the medicine that had been prescribed by the scientists.

Dr Ian Lipkin of Columbia University revealed that though they are still not clear as to how the first person got infected, yet they are sure that the infection virus comes from a family of viruses that are found in rodents. He said that this virus is “really, really aggressive.” Dr Lipkin has also published an online paper on the Lujo virus in PLoS Pathogens. The virus got its name from the cities of Lusaka and Johannesburg, where it was first identified.

According to recorded data, the first case was noticed in a female travel agent who lived in the outskirts of Zambia. She suffered from fever-like illness, which grew worse with time. She was taken to Johannesburg. The paramedic who had nursed her in Lusaka died of the infection and the health care workers who were taking care of the female and the paramedic also got infected. Scientists feel that the infection spread due to contact with infected body fluids. The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci said, “It’s not a kind of virus like the flu that can spread widely.”
