web1Aug 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) If you thought going for a low-fat diet would help you to shed those extra kilos, then a study published on Monday suggests that it is better to go for low-carbohydrate diet as it takes care not only of those extra kilos but also of your heart in the long run. The study maintains that like low-fat diets, low-carbohydrate diets are equally effective in helping obese adults shed their extra kilos. The study according to the researchers point to the fact that low-carbohydrate diets which generally tend to be high in fat content are not a threat to heart as it was supposed to be previously.

The two-year study carried out by the research group included intensive group counseling. It was carried out on 307 middle-aged obese adults who were assigned low-fat or low-carbohydrate diet on a random basis. Apart from diet they were also given a lifestyle program. The researcher found that people who were provided with low-carbohydrate diet plan reported an increase in “good” HDL cholesterol level than those who had gone for low-fat diet regime. People with low-carbohydrate diet plan also found a dip in their diastolic blood pressure.

However, Dr. Gary D. Foster, lead researcher of Temple University in Philadelphia maintained in front of a media source that the study in no way promotes low-carbohydrate diet plan over low-fat diet plan as both of them have showed equally good results in helping obese people lose weight. He maintained that one should choose a kind of diet plan which they can continue for long. Dr. Gary D. Foster mentioned “with either diet, you’re looking pretty good”.
