New Delhi, Mar.18 (ANI): Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat today insisted that his state was still the “safest” destination for tourists, inspite of the negative publicity emerging out of the Scarlett Keeling murder case.
Talking to reporters here after briefing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the incident, Kamat said: “I appeal to all tourists Goa is the safest place and Goans are nice people.”
Goa MPs Shantaram Naik and Francisco Sardinha were also present by Kamat’s side during the meeting and the subsequent interaction with the media.
Kamat said he was in Delhi for a meeting with the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Dr. Montek Singh Alhuwalia, and therefore, used the opportunity to meet the Prime Minister as well.
Kamat did not reply to a question on whether his government had asked the Centre not to extend Fiona Mackeown’s visa after she was declared guilty of leaving her 15-year-old daughter, Scarlett alone in Goa, while she headed off to Karnataka.
“Our first priority is to handle the case,” he said.
Commenting on the molestation of a German tourist on Saturday, Kamat said the police have questioned 15 suspects at Cavelossim beach, the site where the molestation had allegedly taken place. (ANI)
