It is a common belief that mouth to mouth breathing is helpful for saving the life of the victims of Cardiac attack. However, a new study claims that hand only CPR actually works better than the traditional process and has a higher chance of success as well. The leader of the study is Dr. Ben Bobrow who is associated with the Phoenix based Arizona Department of Health Services. He has said in an interview that the hand only CPR eliminates the risk of any injury or pain caused to the victims if it is done correctly. He also said that it can be done by almost anybody and can save a lot of lives.
Some people hesitate to do mouth to mouth CPR as he or she may not be comfortable with the idea of kissing an unknown person in the process. However, in some cases like those of drowning, drug abuse and even for kids mouth to mouth method works well. Continuous chest compress is ideal for the cardiac patients who are adults. Arizona is the US state that has been trying to increase public awareness about hand only CPR in recent times. So far 500000 people in the state have been informed through online and conventional means.
The researchers who have claimed that hands only CPR is better than the mouth to mouth process have studied more than 4400 cases from the year 2005 to 2009. The campaign has worked to an extent as the percentage of people doing CPR spontaneously to cardiac victims has gone up. In many cases a victim can be in a place where medical help may not reach fast. The application of hands only CPR can keep the person alive till doctors reach, claims the study.
