Gyechen new top law officer of Tibetans-in-exile
October 16th, 2009 - 3:39 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Dharamsala, Oct 16 (IANS) Ngawang Phelgyal Gyechen is the new chief of the Tibetan supreme justice commission of the government-in-exile based in this northern hill station.
“Ngawang Phelgyal Gyechen this (Friday) morning took the oath of office as chief justice commissioner of the Tibetan supreme justice commission,” said a report posted on the Central Tibetan Administration website Friday.
Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama administered the oath of office to Gyechen.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended, among others, by the speaker and deputy of the Tibetan parliament, besides members of the government-in-exile.
The supreme justice commission, the highest judicial body of the Tibetan community in exile, was established here March 11, 1992.
The Dalai Lama, who along with many of his supporters fled Tibet and took refuge here in 1959, has set up his government-in-exile which has not been recognised by any country in the world.
