Gandhinagar, Jan 5 (IANS) Gujarat is all set to host a five-day international kite festival, which will draw participants from 34 countries next week, officials said Tuesday.
The 20th international kite festival would be inaugurated by Chief Minister Narendra Modi at the Sabarmati riverfront Jan 11, state Tourism Minister Jaynarayan Vyas told reporters here.
The fest would include a kite-flying and kite-making competition with the international teams fanning out to Surat in south Gujarat and Porbandar in Saurashtra region to demonstrate their skills.
The formal inauguration will also be followed by a yoga programme in which over 7,000 school children will participate.
The tourism minister said the festival would give a boost to the number of foreign tourist arrivals in the state.
“A theme pavilion on ‘Swarnim Gujarat’ and the crafts of the state will be inaugurated on the riverfront to mark the occasion as would be a food bazaar and food court,” said tourism secretary Vipul Mitra.
