Gordon Brown owns a secret PS2.4m wine stashJuly 13th, 2008 - 6:40 pm ICT by ANI
London, July 13 (ANI): Britains PM Gordon Brown secretly owns a secret 2.4 million pounds worth wine stash, it has emerged.
According to the secret figures, Downing Streets wine lake has quadrupled in value with 1.7million pounds of taxpayers cash spent on booze in just the past two years.
Meanwhile, the PM has been lecturing ordinary families on the evils of throwing away food, claiming we could save 8 pound a week by keeping an eye on what we buy.
However, that wouldnt even buy a single bottle of the PMs plonk, for the average cost of a bottle in the Downing Street cellar is 15.28 pounds three times what most families lash out on a bottle of vino.
Browns most expensive buy is legendary vintage Bordeaux at 400 pounds a bottle.
The figures, revealed in a series of parliamentary questions, come days after parents were warned they might have to fork out an extra 100 pounds a year to pay for healthier school meals.
When the Prime Minster is considering asking children to pay extra for school meals, it is ludicrous that he sees fit to spend taxpayers money on his wine, the Daily Star quoted Tory Shadow Treasury Minister Mark Hoban, as saying.
This just shows how out of touch Gordon Brown is, he added.
Latest figures have revealed that the PMs wine tasters have been laying down 57,000 bottles of top quality plonk a year.
One Westminster source said: It is typical of Gordon Brown to nag people about waste and at the same time blow millions on fine wines for him and his guests.
It is always one rule for him and another for the rest of us. He gets the wine and we get the financial hangover, the source added. (ANI)
