London, Feb 5 (ANI): As Google launches a huge recruitment spree, the Internet giant received as many as 75,000 job applications in a week, it has emerged.
Previously, the company, based in Mountain View, California, held a record for the highest number of job applications when they hired a raft of new workers in May 2007.
But the latest barrage of applications topped that figure by an incredible 15 percent as the company plans to add 6,00 new jobs.
Competition for roles at the company is likely to be fierce with an average 12 hopeful candidates vying for a single position.
The company plans to increase hiring as it pushes deeper into mobile services, display advertising and Internet applications.
Google also faces stronger competition from Internet rivals Facebook Inc. that has taken a large share of the advertising market from Google and Apple Inc. that plans to release more products in 2011.
Apple also plans to introduce iAd which will display adverts on its range of products.
“I love Google because of our people. It’s inspiring to be part of the team. And that’s why I am excited about 2011-because it will be our biggest hiring year in company history,” the Daily Mail quoted Google’s Alan Eustace, senior vice president of engineering and research, as writing in a blog post.
“We’ll hire as many smart, creative people as we can to tackle some of the toughest challenges in computer science: like building a Web-based operating system from scratch, instantly searching an index of more than 100 million gigabytes and even developing cars that drive themselves,” he said.
