Global warming leading to fiercer hurricanes

London, February 25 (ANI): An expert at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado has revealed that hurricane intensity and rainfall has been increasing consistently due to global warming for years.

Kevin Trenberth said that, though climate change could not be blamed for the increases in hurricanes, it was definitely leading to wetter, powerful and more dangerous hurricanes.

He pointed out that the total precipitation from hurricanes hitting the US rose by about seven per cent over the course of the 20th century, New Scientist magazine reported.

Trenberth attributed the rise in precipitation from hurricanes to the rise in the sea-surface temperature and atmospheric moisture content, which he said resulted from global warming.

He said that both provided the energy to fuel hurricanes. (ANI)
