Fun-filled Children’s Day for Mumbai kids

Mumbai, Nov 14 (IANS) Children’s Day in Mumbai was an eventful affair Monday as various schools, organisations, corporate houses and state bodies ensured that children have nothing but fun on the 122nd birth anniversary of the first prime minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru.

More than 350 children from various schools in Mumbai roller-skated to Raj Bhavan and met Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan and demanded that they be given their “due rights as children”.

These included the right to receive love, affection and considerate behaviour from elders, to receive nutritional food and healthcare, free education, to get opportunity to play and move about freely anywhere, receive special care in case of being physically handicapped, receive help on priority during crisis situation, etc.

Endorsing the rights of the children, the governor added that the children have the right to grow in a peaceful atmosphere. In this connection, he added that children should not be overburdened with homework and tuitions so that they will get more time to play.

Minister for School Education Rajendra Darda and Minister of State for School Education Fauzia Khan were also present on the occasion.

Children from many schools also presented a colourful cultural programme here.

The NCC Directorate, Maharashtra observed this day as ‘Save the Girl Child Day’. Approximately 600 cadets from various colleges across Mumbai participated in activities scheduled throughout the day like paper presentations, street plays and an awareness rally by 250 NCC cadets.

Mumbai’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS organised a pan-Mumbai micro-donation drive for the betterment of underprivileged children and their education needs. A fun filled event called Children’s Day out was also a part of this initiative titled ‘Change for Change’.

Underprivileged children from various orphanages across Mumbai were entertained here with dance performances by dance groups like Elevate Dance Institute and Sharp Shooters.

Babyoye.com, an leading online store for baby and mother care products Monday partnered with SL Raheja hospital to celebrate the Children’s Day where the hospital played a host to children between the ages of 1-10 years, accompanied by their parents. Children had a gala time here while participating in events like face painting, temporary tattoos, cupcake decorations. They were also served healthy and delicious snacks.

Kissan, Hindustan Unilever’s brand for jams, squashes and tomato ketchups, Monday created a fresh record in the Limca Book of Records by creating ‘World’s Largest Jammy Art’, prepared by 50 enthusiastic children who worked for over two hours. The art work, created with jam and bread, measured measuring 120 feet x 4 feet.

Children also enjoyed yummy food, tattoo stalls, art workshops and online gaming having fun all day.
