French ‘Spiderman’ held for scaling Sydney skyscraper
August 30th, 2010 - 12:04 pm ICT by IANSSydney, Aug 30 (IANS) Frenchman Alain Robert was arrested Monday for climbing a 57-storey skyscraper in Sydney.
Alain Robert, known as the French Spiderman, started to climb the Lumiere building on Bathurst Street at 10.30 a.m. He completed it in 20 minutes.
Dozens of passers-by stopped to watch the feat. Cheers rang out as Robert reached the top of the skyscraper, news-mail.com.au reported.
He was taken into police custody a short time later. Publicity agent Max Markson said it was a wonderful achievement.
“He’s the best at what he does,” Markson said. “I’m sad he’s been arrested but hopefully he’ll get out soon and we can have some champagne.”
Robert, who tries to draw attention to the problem of global warming, has previously climbed the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, the Eiffel Tower and the New York Times building.
