Fashion, grooming training for wives of Punjab cops
June 16th, 2011 - 3:20 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, June 16 (IANS) While their husbands try their best to maintain law and order in the state, the wives of Punjab Police officials would now be busy gathering skills in fashion designing, grooming, hair-styling and computer-aided designing.
Director General of Police (DGP) P.S. Gill’s wife Jas Gill Wednesday inaugurated the first training centre at Ludhiana, 110 km from here.
The Police Employees Welfare Centre has been set up in collaboration with the Sportking Institute of Fashion Technology and well-known hair styling salon Habib.
Jas Gill said: “Keeping in view the arduous nature of the duties of police personnel, it becomes imperative to initiate some welfare measures for their wives and wards, which could further enhance their income besides upgrading their professional education.”
DGP Gill said the Punjab Police had also launched a new scheme called ‘Dhi Rani’ (daughter queen) to improve the sex ratio among members of police force.
He said under this scheme, insurance to the tune of Rs.25,000 will be done from the welfare fund for every new-born girl child of police employees.
