Family alleges wrong breast surgery at AIIMS

New Delhi, April 30 (IANS) A patient’s relatives Wednesday alleged that doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here wrongly operated upon her for breast cancer, but hospital authorities have denied the charge. Kumud Devi from Bihar was operated upon at AIIMS April 3 after two reports found traces of breast cancer.
“When the complete biopsy report came, we found that my mother was not suffering from cancer. When we queried about the negligence, they dismissed it,” said Vikas Pandey, the patient’s son.
“They (authorities) said the biopsy report might have some mistakes. We went for a recheck and found that there was no trace of cancer. We have come from Bihar and this negligence has distressed our family,” Pandey told IANS.
Hospital authorities said that the allegation of medical negligence was baseless.
“It’s not true that she was not suffering from cancer. We have discussed the matter in our meeting and have checked the records,” said D.K. Sharma, medical superintendent of AIIMS.
“There are more than one diagnosis to confirm a disease,” he added.
A few months back, a senior citizen had died at AIIMS after he underwent a heart surgery.
