Facebooks new face angers 3m members
October 19th, 2008 - 12:35 pm ICT by ANI - Send to a friend:Melbourne, October 19 (ANI): The popular social networking site Facebook has come under fire for its new layout after three million of its members called to boycott it.
The protest that started with a million members and had formed a community by the name of 1,000,000 Against The New Facebook, has managed to almost trebled its members drawing support of 2.8 million users.
Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed that the change was a must to be in sync with the amount of information its users were posting.
The change itself, however, has been criticized by many members who objected that the new layout was not only difficult to navigate but was also lacking style, in addition to being confusing and unorganised.
Social media expert Ross Monaghan, a communications lecturer at Deakin University, said that the social networking website would barely suffer from long-term damages.
“Whilst there’’s some concern about (the layout changes) it shows that people are passionate about it, The Couriermail quoted him as saying.
From a publicity point of view, I imagine that they”re sitting back and smiling,” he said.
“I”m not sure what kind of impact three million people saying they”re not going to use it for a few days is going to have considering they have 100 million members,” he added. (ANI)
