Even chimps enjoy listening to good music
November 30th, 2009 - 2:35 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Washington, November 30 (ANI): A female chimp with the ear for music has led researchers to believe that chimpanzees too enjoy a good tune.
Kazuhide Hashiya of Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan, learned of the possibility at a zoological park with the help of Sakura, a seventeen-week-old female chimp.
Hashiya, graduate student Tasuko Sugimoto, and team handed Sakura a string to pull that let her to replay classical minuets after hearing bits of them, reports Live Science.
The group made some of the minuets by computer and included some changes such as switching all the G notes to G-flat.
The experts found that Sakura replayed the original, consonant versions 55 percent more often than their dissonant alterations.
The research was published in the journal Primates. (ANI)
