Diwali being celebrated with traditional fervour and zeal

New Delhi, Oct 28 (ANI): Diwali, the festival of lights, is being celebrated across the country with traditional fervour and zeal today.

It was celebrated in the southern part of the country on Monday.

Diwali is being celebrated with full fervour and gaiety in Delhi. The Delhi police has made elaborate security arrangements for the occasion.

In Madhya Pradesh, people are opting for eco-friendly crackers and the Chinese make are no longer in demand. The State Pollution Control Board is continuously monitoring the air and noise pollution levels.

Diwali is also being celebrated in Jammu region with religious fervour and enthusiasm.

Lighting earthen lamps and bursting crackers on this day signify victory of good over evil.

This festival is celebrated to commemorate return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after completing 14 years in exile and killing demon king Ravana.

The festival is celebrated on the first day of the lunar month of Kartik, which comes in the month of October or November.

In view of the recent terror attacks in various parts of the country, tight security arrangements have been made by the police to avert any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, President Pratibha Patil, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh have greeted the people on the occasion of Diwali. (ANI)
