Islamabad, June 5 (ANI): The demand for trying President Parvez Musharraf for treason is growing in the country.

According to the BBC, a group of Pakistani ex-servicemen in Lahore has given calls for Musharraf to be tried for treason.

Senior politician Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday joined a retired general in calling for the President to be charged.

About 70 former senior military officers said Musharraf should be prosecuted for “various misdemeanours” since 1999.

The Ex-Servicemen’s Association (ESA), a group of retired military officers, has also emerged as part of the recent civil society movement against Musharraf.

It said that members were unhappy with his policies and favoured the restoration of judges sacked by Musharraf, the rehabilitation of disgraced nuclear scientist AQ Khan and a return to Pakistan’s more belligerent stand on the Kashmir dispute prior to Musharraf’s rise to power. It also called for a complete pull-out of troops from areas where operations against militants are active in the tribal areas and North West Frontier Province.

Musharraf is also under attack for his policy of supporting the US-led “War on Terror”. (ANI)
