Kullu, Apr 11 (ANI): The Chinese Ambassador to India, Zhang Yan, met Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee here on Friday.
Sources at the Speaker’s office termed the meeting as a ‘courtesy call’ by the Chinese envoy, who was appointed as the Chinese Ambassador to India, four months back.
On Thursday, exiled Tibetans staged a candle light protest in Kullu, which is a part of the series of protests that are being staged by them ever since March 10, the Tibetan uprising day.
“We are protesting against the atrocities committed by the Chinese authorities on the Tibetans. We are praying for those Tibetans who were killed. We are praying that their souls should rest in peace and whenever they take birth again, they can lead a peaceful life,” said Tanku, a protestor.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led communist government in West Bengal has banned protests by the Tibetans.
Torch relay runs through London, Paris and San Francisco in recent days have been hit by protesters demanding freedom for Tibet and an improvement of human rights in China.
The Indian Government has said that adequate security arrangements have been made ahead of the Olympic torch relay that is scheduled to pass through New Delhi on April 17. (ANI)
