Chandigarh to host Indian Foundry Congress from Friday

Chandigarh, Feb 10 (IANS) This union territory is all set to host the 59th edition of the three-day Indian Foundry Congress and Cast India expo from Friday.Over 200 exhibitors from different parts of India and countries like Germany, Italy, Japan, China and Taiwan would participate in this event.

“The theme of this congress is resurgence India, which is in sync with today’s time. India has reached the second spot in the world rankings of casting production. China, which is at first position produces 35 million tonnes per year, whereas India produces 7.5 million tonnes,” Institute of Indian Foundrymen President Naresh Garg said here Thursday.

“However, the gap between the available capacity and demand in the domestic market is so large that industry has to double itself every five years. The aim of this congress is to sensitize entrepreneurs, policy makers and all those who would work in unison for achieving this goal,” he added.

Chandigarh is hosting this congress after 46 years. It was last held here in 1964.

Garg said that they are expecting over 1,300 registered delegates and over 5,000 visitors. “We would discuss different subjects like modern foundry technology, equipment, processes, management and quality engineering,” he pointed out.

Major events of this congress would include buyer-seller meet, CEO meet, senior expert forum, plenary sessions and 12 technical sessions with papers presentation by 50 authors.

Foundry is the art of melting metals and casting them into different shapes. This is a mother industry that feeds variety of engineering products from automobiles to aircraft to sanitary fittings to oil exploration industries.
