London, Aug.6 (ANI): Hundreds of Brits are feared to have lost thousands of pounds in an Olympic tickets website rip-off.
Fans, including athletes pals and families, paid up to 30,000 pounds for non-existent entry passes, reports The Sun.
Last night the International Olympic Committee was trying to close the official-looking site as complaints flooded in from the UK, US, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.
The websites offices in London and overseas appeared to be bogus addresses.
TV producer Paul Andrews says he paid 2,000 pounds for tickets to the last day of the athletics and the closing ceremony. They never arrived.
Ive been royally stung. I was desperate to get tickets and this seemed the only place that had any left for sale. I did a lot of checks and it looked genuine. It is disgusting that this has been done right under the noses of the authorities. They seem powerless to do anything about it, The Sun quoted him, as saying.
The IOC has said that it will be taking legal action in California against the site, but would not be compensating the victims of the fraud. (ANI)
