London, Aug 15 (ANI): A Brit couple got so frustrated at a salesman’’s refusal to leave their house after two hours that they called the police.

The salesman was asking the couple a deposit for the 31,000 pounds he quoted to replace their windows.

The couple, who have two young kids, constantly asked him to leave before calling the police and handing him the phone so that a police officer could tell him to go.

The family from Worcester Park, south London, had earlier received a cold call setting up the meeting in their home last week.

The man claimed to work for a company called Weatherseal.

However, the company said that it did not believe that the man worked for them and that the company was not even carrying out marketing or sales visits in the Sutton area.

Trading Standards officials said that customers, who received unsolicited visits from salespeople, were legally protected by a seven-day buffer allowing them to cancel an agreement.

“Bogus doorstep sellers will stop at nothing to part you from your money, the Telegraph quoted Ruth Dombey, deputy leader of Sutton Council, as saying.

“While they had the presence of mind to call the police, more vulnerable residents such as the frail or elderly are often intimidated into handing over cash or bank details.

“Take extra care when inviting a stranger into your home, particularly if the visit is following a cold call,” Dombey added. (ANI)
