Big three stumble over power-sharing; agree to continue talks

June 18th, 2008 - 10:58 pm ICT by ANI - Email This Post Email This Post

Kathmandu , June 18 (ANI): The protracted meeting among the senior leaders of Nepali Congress (NC), Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) and Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (CPN-M) on Wednesday, ended inconclusively late in the evening as they could not agree on the power-sharing issues.

According to Nepalnews reports, emerging out of the meeting, the Maoist spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara told reporters that they were approaching understanding.

We are close to reaching understanding on constitutional amendment. We are trying to reach closer to understanding on issues related with peace process and the power-sharing, Mahara said.

He said the three parties will meet again on Thursday.

Mahara added that the Maoists have also withheld their warning to walk out from the government till Thursday.

Earlier, they had threatened to resign from the government if there was no agreement till Wednesday.
The delay in reaching of understanding among the three parties has affected the proceedings of Constituent Assembly (CA), which has gone into indefinite recess since Wednesday. (ANI)
