Beijing praying Rain Gods dont play spoilsport on Fridays Opening Ceremony

August 4th, 2008 - 3:57 pm ICT by ANI -

Beijing , Aug 4 (ANI): Amid weather forecast of heavy rains and thunderstorm on August 8, Beijing is praying to the Rain Gods not to play a spoilsport on the Opening Ceremony this Friday.

Deputy Director of the Beijing Meteorological Bureau, Wang Jianjie reportedly told media persons last evening in Beijing that contingency plans have been made to reduce, delay or even bring forward the rainfall before it reaches Beijing s National Stadium, where the ceremony is slated to be held.

Beijing has prepared cannons to either disperse rains for important activities or produce artificial rains to reduce temperatures when there are enough clouds, reported the China Daily.

We may see a cloudy sky on August 8, and it will probably also meet scattered showers or thunderstorms. The highest temperature may be between 30 and 32 C, the paper quoted her as saying.

But, she refused to give details on when and where the rain is expected to fall, added a report in the paper.

Previously, games organizers had said that there was a 41 percent chance of rains on the Opening day.

During a visit to the Beijing Olympic Meteorological Monitoring Center on Saturday, Wang had said that her team will be able to control rainfalls of less than 10 mm.

According to Guo Wenli, an expert on the Olympics weather monitoring team, heavy rains, high temperatures and pollution caused by sultry weather conditions were Beijing ‘’s main concerns during the Games.

Games organizers say if any extreme weather conditions arise, they will provide warnings about them as early as possible and let BOCOG decide what to do in case of an emergency.
On August 6, an updated weather forecast from Games organizers is expected.
