Becks to play big role up through 2010 World Cup campaign, says Coach CapelloMay 30th, 2008 - 4:15 pm ICT by admin
London, May 30 (ANI): Former soccer captain David Beckham will play an integral role for England all the way through to the 2010 World Cup after demonstrating to Fabio Capello he remains his most consistent threat.
Beckham was given a golden cap for becoming the fifth England footballer to play 100 matches.
Golden Balls responded by delivering the perfect free-kick from which skipper John Terry headed Capello’s side in front, before making way for David Bentley at the break.
But with the Blackburn winger failing to make a pressing case for his own long-term inclusion in the starting line-up, Beckham remains the man in possession - and Capello does not expect that to change any time soon, reports The Mirror. The England boss said: “Beckham is not important only for free-kicks and corners. He is important during all the game, not just the set-pieces.
“When I didn’t pick Beckham for the first game, against Switzerland, a lot of people ask me ‘why?’ “Now I pick Beckham, and they ask me ‘why?’ he was picked. In the squad we have good players. I hope that in the future we have more good players, and then I will have to choose,” Capello added. (ANI)
