BD India to promote safe injection practices in KeralaAugust 9th, 2008 - 8:04 pm ICT by IANS
Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 9 (IANS) Leading syringe manufacturer BD (Becton, Dickinson and Co) Saturday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Kerala chapter of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) to offer educational and training programmes on safe injection practices. With the support of the state government, IAP would reach out to 1,500 medical students enrolled in the 15 medical colleges every year with this programme, BD India managing director Ram Sharma told reporters here.
“The first training session would be held at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College tomorrow (Sunday) and then it will be taken to other medical colleges,” Sharma said.
The training programme consists of a five-module presentation that has been developed and delivered by the IAP and BD and a two-week assignment for each intern to a hospital injection room.
“We have decided to coordinate with the IAP because immunisation programme is very crucial and a slight mistake could well end in disaster because children are the future of India. Kerala was specifically selected because the IAP-Kerala showed lot of interest,” BD India general manager Rajnish Rohatgi said.
