Kolkata, Dec 28 (IANS) Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee took an auto rickshaw ride to the airport here Monday after her vehicle got stranded in a Muharram procession.
Banerjee, on her way to catch a Delhi-bound flight, found her convoy stalled at the busy V.I.P road-Teghoria crossing close to the N.S.C. Bose International Airport.
As a big Muharram procession wound its way at the crossing, Banerjee got off her car, walked about two km with the procession and then hopped into an airport-bound auto rickshaw.
“She walked nearly two km with the procession and then took the auto-rikshaw,” said Jyotipriyo Mallick, a Trinamool Congress legislator.
An officer manning the city police traffic control room confirmed the incident.
