New York, July 9 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Scientists are gradually making progress in their struggle against the AIDS virus. Though the virus is still incurable, scientists say they have discovered antibodies that can protect the body from several forms of the AIDS virus.

Scientists can use the antibodies in their design of vaccine for the disease that continues to kill millions of people every year.

Scientists say the antibodies are manufactured by the immune systems of certain people after they are infected with the virus. However by that time, it might be too late, so the scientists want to introduce the antibodies to the body earlier to prevent the infection.

The researchers who worked on the study said that two of the antibodies could neutralize about 90 percent of the known variations of the virus. This will be a major leap in the fight against the disease. The disease has eluded cure for all these years, but development in science have led to the production of drugs that helps prolong the lives of those affected by the disease.

AIDS was discovered in the 1980’s and since its discovery, the disease has claimed the lives of more than 25 million people. Currently about 33 million people are living with the virus worldwide.
