Anna crusade reaches police station

New Delhi, Sep 28 (IANS) Some were amused while others peeved, but volunteers of India Against Corruption (IAC) definitely ruffled many feathers at the Parliament Street police station Wednesday when they gathered there to protest against graft.
Around 50 volunteers, many of them holding national flags and banners supporting anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare and freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, entered the premises and asked policemen to sign a declaration stating that they shall not take or give bribes.
“This is the same place where Bhagat Singh was lodged during the freedom struggle and that’s why we came here,” 28-year-old lawyer Rishikesh Kumar, who led the group, told IANS.
While some volunteers danced and raised slogans in the courtyard, others went around trying to convince policemen to sign the declaration. While some budged, many protested, resulting in arguments.
“What’s this drama all about? If I am hell bent on being corrupt, a piece of paper won’t stop me,” Inspector S.S. Rana argued with one of the volunteers.
Meanwhile, a bunch of volunteers went a step further and began forcing some policemen to wear Anna caps.
A constable became an easy target as a bunch of volunteers began forcing him to buy an Anna cap from them for Rs.10 and wear it.
The constable protested and sensing trouble, half a dozen media cameras immediately zoomed on him.
The nervous policeman bought the cap and literally fled from the spot.
According to the IAC, around 50 lower ranked personnel, including constables and head constables, signed the form but the senior officers refused to do so.
