A new gadget cancels the sound of the dentist’s drill
January 10th, 2011 - 8:49 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York, Jan 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Dentists have come up with a way to keep the patients coming in.
It has been confirmed that most people are afraid of visiting their dentist not only because of the pain but because of the noise of the drills that are used for most of the procedures. They have come to associate the device’s sound with the pain and that is really keeping most people away from the dentists’ office.
The dentists are now fighting back and this time, they are coming out with a technique to take the noise away. The new device allows the doctors to plug into any music player and filter out the sound of the drill. Incredibly, the patient will be able to listen to the music and also be able to hear whatever the doctor will say.
The new device is the brain child of Professor Brian Millar at King’s College Dental Institute. Professor Millar explain that he was inspired by Lotus’s success in filtering road noise in their cars.
His real intentions though might be found in these words that he told reporters, “Many people put off going to the dentist because of anxiety associated with the noise of the dentist’s drill. But this device has the potential to make fear of the drill a thing of the past.”
