November 20th, 2009 - 12:13 pm ICT by IANS Tell a Friend -

Colima (Mexico), Nov 20 (EFE) Ana Maria Perez Gonzalez, said to be one of the oldest women in the world, died here this week. She was 119.
The spokesman for the state employees benefits agency in the western state of Colima, Jose Armando Naranjo, told EFE that Perez died Tuesday from “generalised septicemia, pneumonia and cardiac problems”.

She was buried Wednesday in the community where she lived, La Cofradia de Juarez, in a ceremony attended by some of her 266 descendants.

Born June 22, 1890, in the neighbouring state of Michoacan, Perez Gonzalez in July 2008 was recognised by President Felipe Calderon as Mexico’s oldest woman, and Guinness was in the process of certifying her as the world’s oldest woman.

Of Perez Gonzalez’s four children, two are already dead - Feliciano and Maria - but the other two are still alive: Socorro and Felicitas.

Through the four children, the family now consists of 30 grandchildren, 122 great-grandchildren, 105 great-great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-great-grandchildren.
