Wrestler Anil wins fifth gold for India, beats Australian in 96kg category finals

Abhinav Bindra New Delhi, Oct.5 (ANI): It has been a great day for India so far on Tuesday, with its participants in the XIXth Commonwealth Games nailing five golds. Apart from the five gold medals, India has four silver medals and two bronze medals — a total of 11 medals till the filing of this report.

Wrestler Anil Kumar won a gold medal in the 96 kilogram category of men’s wrestling final match, played at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex here on Tuesday evening.He beat Hassene Fkiri of Australia.

Earlier, grappler Sanjay Kumar earned India its second gold medal in wrestling in the 74kg Greco-Roman style event at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex on Tuesday. Kumar defeated South Africa’s Richard Brian Addinall 2-0 in the final to run away with the top honours in front of the sparse crowd.

Earlier, Ravinder Singh claimed India’s first gold medal in wrestling in the 60kg Greco-Roman style event, defeating England’s Christopher Terence Bosson 7-2 in the final to run away with the top honours in front of the sparse crowd.

Indian shooters Abhinav Bindra and Gagan Narag won India its first gold medal at the 19th Commonwealth games in men’s 10m air rifle pair event.

Rahi Sarnobat and Anisa Sayeed then followed it up with another gold in pairs 25m pistol event for women. (ANI)
