Srinagar, Feb 28 (ANI): Scores of youngsters participated in the winter football tournament organised in Srinagar.

The tournament was organized on Sunday by Brazilian coach Juan Marcos, in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA).

The game was started three years back with the aim of strengthening the football structure in the Kashmir Valley and to set up football academies to polish young talent.

Marcos said he has found good players in Kashmir.

“When we came here, the idea was to make football culture in Kashmir. For this you need to play through out the year and in winters too “Marcos said.

Young players have praised the efforts made by Marcos.

Basharat, a player, said: “It boosts the players’ morale. We play football in snow, hard ground and in rain. It will keep our future bright and we are thankful to Marcos for starting the event”

The Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Asghar Samoon, said the sport is good for Kashmiri youth.

“The stamina in our children is suited for football. They just need identification, coaching and encouragement. There is a need to channel their positive energy” Samoon said.

Many football enthusiasts thronged the Valley to witness the tournament. (ANI)
