Tug of war on between two factions of MAICCI for control

Klang (Malaysia) June 22 (ANI): Two factions of the Malaysian Associated

Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MAICCI) are in a tug of war to

gain control over the organisation.

Incumbent President Datuk K.K. Eswaran leads one faction of MAICCI while

the former President Datuk V.K.K. Teagarajan helms the other.

“Seven states had written to the MAICCI headquarters complaining about

the president (Eswaran) and by right the chamber should have initiated a

special delegates conference within 90 days as more than 50% of the 12

state chambers were involved,” Staronline quoted a MAICCI member as

saying.

Earlier, the annoyed members wrote to the Registrar of Societies (ROS),

which instructed MAICCI to hold a special delegates conference. However,

MAICCI failed to comply resulting in Teagarajan’s group holding its own

special delegates conference on Jan 15, and finally unanimously removing

Eswaran as the president.

The agitated members urged the Registrar to clarify as to who the rightful

President was to which the ROS said it recognised Eswaran and his team

members as legitimate leaders of MAICCI.

Meanwhile, the Teagarajan team applied to the High Court to declare him

the legitimate president of the body on June 4. The case is still pending.
