Tribal dance festival spreads message of peace and harmony in Tripura
December 20th, 2009 - 6:19 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Agartala, Dec 20 (ANI): A three-day musical extravaganza was held in Tripura where different tribal communities from all over the state showcased their folk dances to spread the message of peace and harmony.
The festival named ‘Adibashi Nritya and Sahitya Mela’ highlighted the traditional tribal culture of Tripura and the efforts being made to revive it.
The event, which was organized by The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) aimed at promoting various forms of Tribal Folk Dance and creating awareness about the rich cultural heritage amongst the younger generation in the state.
“The event organized by the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) and the State Government shall not only help in reviving the tribal culture but also play a vital role in uniting people by bringing together tribes with the non-tribal people,” said Ranjit Roy a visitor.
Nineteen different tribes of the state showcased their ethnic dances and music performances to an enthusiastic audience.
Besides dance and music, traditional tribal fine arts, handicrafts, household goods, ornaments and weapons were also displayed in the festival.
“Through this festival, the youth who are attracted to western culture will get to know about the age-old rich traditions and culture of our fore-fathers.” Said dulu Debbarma a Tribal Dance performer.
The festival, which represents a kaleidoscopic view of dazzling culture and customs of the tribal communities, will help in strengthening the integrity of the state and also in preserving the generations-old folk traditions. (ANI)
