Tips on How To Deal With Back to School Stress
August 24th, 2010 - 12:09 am ICT by Angela Kaye MasonAug 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Whether you are a student or a parent of a student, whether you are going back to school, or trying to prepare your children for the next school year, odds are you are facing a great amount of stress in your life during this fall season.
Whether it is trouble with the economic conditions, and having issues with finding the school supplies which the teachers require for your child, or having the money for transportation, and worrying over whether the buses are safe, the stress of back to school time can be very overwhelming.
In 2006, a survey was conducted by the American Psychological Association which showed almost half of Americans are concerned about their stress levels. High stress levels can cause physical and emotional problems, and effect health and behavior in kids as well.
In an article by the APA Help Center, psychologist Dr. Ron Palomares explains, “Returning to work after a vacation, transitioning your children to a new school, even fighting a busier rush hour as schools reopen, can all contribute to an increased stress level.”
But what can we do to lower our stress? Here are a few terrific tips for those suffering from back to school stress.
1) Learn how to manage your time very wisely. Time management can greatly reduce huge amounts of stress.
2) Organize. Cheap and easy tools for organization are readily available for you that can help you remember deadlines and assignments, and plan a schedule.
3) Understand how you learn. It is very important to understand just how you process information in order to establish good study habits.
4) Brush up on study skills. Work on your study habits, test taking abilities, and writing process to tweak your skills.
5) Find out how to learn more efficiently. There are several suggestions here which can help you learn how to process information better.
Most importantly, when you feel stressed…breathe. Keep positive thoughts in your mind. Instead of thinking “ This school year is gonna suck,” or “ I am gonna hate this class,” remain positive. Positive thinking can go a long way in improving attitude, stress levels, and life in general.
