Theatre, vocational training for dwarfs held in Assam
April 3rd, 2011 - 3:39 pm ICT by ANIGuwahati, Apr 3 (ANI): Dapon, the Mirror of Tangla, a renowned cultural organization of Assam’s Udalguri District has recently organised a month-long theatre and vocational training for the dwarfs to prove that they are also valued parts of the civil society.
Dapon, the Mirror is determined to assert the fact that the dwarfs, an abnormally small person, also have human feelings, capabilities and intellect in them but they need proper care and guidance.
The keyman behind Dapon, the Mirror is National School of Drama (NSD) product and Tangla’s son Pabitra Rabha.
With his untiring endeavour and limited resources, Dapon, the Mirror has since successfully undertaken a number of training programmes for those who are otherwise raw in theatrical world.
He has landed New Delhi-based and NSD associated famous artistes at Tangla for imparting training to the new aspirants in various aspects of dramatic performance.
“First I became friends with them and talked normally with them. I never made them feel that they were dwarves and since then things became easy for me,” said Rabha. “I can say that Rabha sir is doing marvelous work by organizing this camp for us. When I performed on the stage I will give a message to the people that we also can live like normal people,” Timthus Tirki, a participant.
On stage these young men and women act like normal artists and perform with full emotions.
During the workshop they are trained in puppet making and mask making. Apart from food and clothes, the artists are paid a sum of Rs 200 everyday so that their daily income is not affected. With untiring effort and limited resources, Dapon, the Mirror has successfully undertaken a number of training programmes. (ANI)
