Haridwar, Feb.4 (ANI): Even as the ongoing Kumbh Mela in Haridwar is witnessing arrival of tens of thousands of devotees from across the country on a daily basis, a group of holy men including ascetics, seers, and saints gathered here have opted to educate slum children.

Thousands of holy men, seers and pilgrims have assembled in the Himalayan foothill town of Haridwar in Uttarakhand.

The education is being offered free of cost and seeks to make the kids aware of things useful in daily life.

“We have been teaching the kids for last 21 days. During these days, there have been tremendous changes in them. They have learnt elementary things like etiquettes, counting, etc. We are also teaching them Yoga and benefits of hygiene.” said Vipin Joshi, Organiser of the event.

Some of the kids are thrilled with what they are being taught here.

“Guruji (teacher) teaches us counting and we have come here to learn more,” said Ajay, a student.

Parents of these children are delighted to see their kids being imparted education.

“It is a very good move. I want my child to be educated so that he joins some job,” said Santoshi Devi, a mother.

Millions of devotees are expected to take a holy dip during the Kumbh Mela which started on January 14 and will last till April 28.

Hindus believe that a holy dip in Ganges water can cleanse them off their all sins and help them attain salvation. (ANI)
