School students take part in philately exhibition in Delhi
December 12th, 2010 - 7:21 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Dec.12 (ANI): School children participated in a letter writing and stamp designing competition organized by the World Philatelic Exhibition and India Post here on Sunday.
The initiative taken up by India Post brought together around 3000 young minds from various schools to work for a cause of bringing the international philatelic community together to celebrate philately.
“Many school students are participating in the competition. We are having two competitions today. The context in which these competitions are being organised is that we are celebrating INDIPEX, 2010 to exhibit the World Philately,” said Rameshwari Bhandera, a visitor.
The competition titled ‘Design a stamp’ was based on the topical issue of ‘Save the Tiger’.
“I have drawn a tiger because the number of tigers has decreased. Earlier, the number of tigers was 40,000 but now the number has decreased to 1,141. So, through my drawing I want to show that we should save tigers. If we save tigers then forests will be saved,” said Ankita, a school student.
Six of the best stamps would be printed as official government of India stamps and further will be issued on next Children’s Day (November 14, 2011).
A former Rajya Sabha member Nazma Heptullah, who was present at the event, said the electronic media should promote the message of saving the tigers.
“I want to give the message that this initiative is very good. All the television channels should take up such initiative, so that the message will be disseminated,” said Heptullah.
The Department of Post would be organising many other philatelic events across the country for students such as marathon, stamp parades and quizzes in a bid to provide a unique platform for interaction of all the philatelic stakeholders.
The World Philatelic Exhibition would be held from February 12-18 in New Delhi. (ANI)
