Remember K.J. Alphonse? Bureaucrat-turned-legislator now turns actorDecember 19th, 2008 - 10:55 am ICT by IANS
Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 19 (IANS) He has been a controversial bureaucrat as well as a legislator in real life. But now K.J. Alphonse Kannanthanam is all set to be Kerala chief minister - on screen!”After seeing how the government works, first as a bureaucrat and now as a legislator, I am supremely confident I can take on the role with ease,” Alphonse told IANS. He will be acting in the movie “Koodaram”.
Alphonse, now in his mid-50s, had shot to fame in 1992-97 when as Delhi Development Authority commissioner he bulldozed a number of illegal constructions in the Indian capital.
He quit the Indian Administrative Service after 27 years in 2006 to join politics. He won the Kanjirapally assembly seat from Kottayam district as an independent backed by the Left Democratic Front in the assembly polls that year.
And now he is all set to play a new role.
“The film shooting has already begun and my shooting is to take place soon. Another highlight of my role is that I have told the director I will pen my own dialogues and he has agreed,” Alphonse said while sipping coffee at the assembly canteen.
Excited about “Koodaram”, he said the film revolves around all the important events that have taken place in Kerala in the last few years and delves into topics like murder and godmen.
“Why things are not happening in the state will be discussed and as chief minister I am showing how things can happen here,” said the legislator.
The film is being directed by Anas, who is turning full-time director after working as assistant director in numerous movies.
Popular villain-turned-character artist Lalu Alex plays a central role and many of the actors are debutants.
