Islamabad, July 23 (ANI): A meeting between Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton which took place in Phuket, Thailand, has been described as fruitful with both discussing several issues.
Addressing a regular press briefing here, Foreign Office spokesperson Abdul Basit said that talks between the two were successful.
Basit said the Foreign Minister apprised Clinton about the recent Indo-Pak talks took in Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt and the progress made in the Mumbai terror attack investigations.
On the dossier detailing India’s involvement in Baloch unrest, Basit said a joint statement in Sharm el-Sheikh has been released and nothing more could be said on the matter.
Earlier, reports in the Pakistani media had said that Islamabad had handed over a dossier to New Delhi detailing India’s covert subversion in restive Balochistan.
According to the report, the dossier also blamed India for carrying out terror attacks on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore and the Manawan Police Academy. The report also claimed the dossier as stating that India maintains a ‘terror training camp’ in Kandahar from where trained Baloch insurgents are sent into Pakistan
India termed the allegations as ‘baseless’.
Government sources denied that any such dossier was given to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at Sharm-el-Sheikh.
Reacting to the media reports, Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor said: “I have not yet seen any dossier. If such dossier exists, we will examine it and comment.” “Pakistan wants to escape its responsibility. We don’t want a destabilised Pakistan. We want a prosperous and stable Pakistan. This has never been Indian policy to destabilise neighbours,” said Tharoor adding “We cannot believe Pak media reports on a dossier.” (ANI)
