Overweight ‘Princess Chunk’, 44-pound cat

- Princess Chunk, the overweight cat of 44-pound who is just two pounds shy of the 1987 Guinness World Record for overweight cats.
Deborah Wright of Sicklerville, New Jersey, which she picked up from the pound on Saturday said now the cat is on her way to celebrity status. Princess Chunk, a feline fatty is to travel to New York City today for appearances on two national TV shows “The Today Show” and “Live with Regis and Kelly,”
She also said that Princess Chunk is going to appear on “Good Morning America” on Friday, who is currently caring for the cat.
Shelter officials claimed that lots of phone call for inquiries from prospective adoptive families, perplexed veterinarians and national media interested in telling the obese kitty’s story this week.
Princess Chunk was found by an animal control officer on Saturday, had no identification tags but is believed to have been a pet. regarding the law the cat will be eligible for adoption seven days after its arrival at the shelter.
Numerous applications and inquiries sent to the shelter regarding Chunk but decision will be made on the cat sometime next week.
The cat’s weight is two pounds shy of the Guinness world record, a category that was retired in 2001 for fear owners might overfeed pets in an attempt to set a new mark.
A healthy cat, on average, should weigh between 10 and 12 pounds, said Sachina Lyons-Brown, a veterinarian from Clementon Animal Hospital. She said Chunk may suffer from a genetic predisposition to obesity, a poor diet or other factors.
Shelter officials say the cat appears to be healthy, but will undergo blood work on Monday.
