Nemwang confident that Nepal will get new constitution on time
August 14th, 2009 - 2:38 pm ICT by ANIKathmandu, Aug 14 (ANI): Nepal Constituent Assembly chairman Subash Nemwang has expressed confidence that the country will get a new Constitution within the stipulated time.
At a time when constitution-drafting process has taken a backseat amid growing political rift, Nemwang said: “We have ten months to go. We must be able to draft the Constitution by May, 2010.”
Speaking at a function here on Thursday, Nemwang emphasised that broad political consensus is, however, a must to make sure that the statute is written on time and called upon the parties to forge unity just like they had done in the past.
He also urged the parties to reach common understanding on national issues.
Meanwhile, Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala has expressed confidence that the peace process will end in success and that the ongoing Maoist agitations will not threaten it.Taking to reporters here, Koirala said, “Peace process will not be threatened at all. Country will definitely see sustainable peace, and there is nothing to worry.”
He also described the Maoist protest movement as meaningless.
Asked for comment on Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal’s impending India visit, he said that since Nepal shared close ties with both India and China, the visit should aim at bolstering the existing good relation, nepalnews reported. (ANI)
