Locals in Chigmerirong protested against this practice of ransom for life demand. They said the culprits must be brought to justice.
The assailants claimed to be from Kangleipak Communist Party- Military Council (KCP-MC), which is led by Sangai Rajan.
On November 22, Kuber along with five others, including the victim’s wife were abducted at gunpoint. The militants also burned paddy fields that were ready for harvesting.
The captives were ruthlessly tortured and Kuber succumbed on his way to a hilltop. The assailants however kept kicking and hitting his corpse.
Provoked by this form of lawless violence, the people of Chingmeirong staged a protest.
They shouted slogans and carried placards that condemned the brutal killing.
Scores of protestors blocked one side of National Highway 39. They kept Kuber’s body on the road and demanded for halt to insurgency.
Security forces, however, convinced the angry protesters to take the body for post mortem.
The banned KCP-MC was formed in 1980. The organization is now divided into various factions. (ANI)
