Imphal, April 28 (ANI): People in militant-prone Manipur had a pleasant change attending the recently held Tourism Festival 2009 here, which highlighted the rich culture of the state while giving a fillip to its tourism sector.
The ten-day Tourism Festival attracted a large number of people from within the State and neighbouring areas of the region.
Foreign counties like Thailand, Myanmar, Pakistan and Vietnam also participated in the festival showcasing their unique indigenous products.
Twenty seven cultural troupes from different states enthralled the audience with cultural performances.
A major attraction of the event was Hot-air ballooning.
“Last time we went to Guwahati and Shillong. Many people were interested in our products because these products are found only in one place in the world. I hope this year also it will be the same. Many people will be interested in our products,” said JIM at the Thailand stall during the Tourism festival.
At the festival, attractive packages were offered to the tourists that included visits to historical places and expedition to various destinations.
“It is well organized and there are stalls from other countries. There are interactions. We are going to learn from each other. I think it’s for the betterment,” said Linda Joshi, a visitor.
The festival was one in the series of Tourism Festivals jointly organised by the Nirvana Pilgrim Society Exposition, Kolkata under the aegis of the State’s Tourism Department.
The event evoked an admirable response among the local residents, which is indicative of their desire for peace and rapid development of the state. (ANI)
