Manipur holds science exhibition
December 25th, 2010 - 4:30 pm ICT by ANIManipur, Dec.25 (ANI): The 31st edition of the annual science exhibition was held in Manipur recently with the aim of encouraging young scientists and innovators in the region.
Over 60 students from different districts of Manipur participated in the exhibition that was held under the theme “science and technology for challenge in life.”
Organized under the aegis of State education department, the fair showcased science projects of young students.
The fair held at the Bengali High School Grounds aimed to increase awareness about the need for science education and motivate youth towards research and development.
“Our science advisors are working hard to increase the participation of the young students from all the districts in such kind of academic fairs. And seeing the enthusiasm of students this year it is very clear that they want to come forward and prove themselves,” said R. K. Tennedy, one of the organizers.
Over 75 science models were at display during the three-day event.
Visitors showed keen interest in the work of young students who enthusiastically talked about their projects.
Some of the innovative designs included efficient weaving looms, wireless fire alarms, a new model for ecological parks and compound farming to promote multiple occupations.
“I feel that through this fair I am creating awareness on the need for the preservation of the Loktak Lake. The impact of this fair is that it will help the students focus more on the need of science in their life,” said Paonshiel Kipgen, a student.
“I have met many people here who have more ideas and are much more intelligent than me. And fairs like these showcase the potential of science to change the world,” said Janari Devi, another student.
To encourage the students some of the exhibitors were selected for a scholarship to pursue education and research in the field of science and technology. (ANI)
