Mango farmers rejoice over bumper crop in Uttarakhand
April 16th, 2011 - 5:21 pm ICT by ANIHaldwani, Apr 16 (ANI): Mango farmers in Uttarakhand’s Haldwani district are happy as bumper crop this year will yield them good profit.
Farmers said if the climatic conditions remain favourable throughout the season then the production of the crop would cross 13,000 metric tonnes.
“This time the crop will be very good. Trees are loaded with mangoes. If weather would support it, then there will be bumper crop. We expect good rates from the government for the fruit ,” said Ravindra Sharma.
“This time there is a bumper mango crop because we have sprayed medicines in time, and weather conditions have also supported the crop. We pray to God that climatic conditions will remain favourable throughout the season so that we can get good and healthy crop,” said Chandra Shekhar.
Mango, often called the king of fruits is grown across the country, and its harvest too is spread out.
Arrivals of the fruit from southern and western parts of the country hit the market mainly in April-May, while harvest in the north starts from May-end and runs till mid-July.
Alphonso, Banganapalli, Kesar, Langra, Chausa, Mallika and Dussheri are the most popular varieties from across the country, and their prices vary.
India produces more than half the world’s mangoes but exports only a tiny portion. (ANI)
