Mangalore, Aug 25 (ANI): Fishermen in Karnataka’s Mangalore city celebrated a mass sea prayer to mark the beginning of the fishing season.
Organised jointly by an ethnic body, the Mangalore Elu Pattana Mogaveera Samyukta Sabha, and the city’s Kadri Temple, the event was organized at the Tannirbavi Beach on Tuesday.
He said that the occasion was very special to the people of the area, who are mostly fishermen as sea is the source of their income.
“Fishermen are worshiping sea particularly today throughout the costal area from the beginning. We are offering milk collected from every house to the sea and praying it to be peaceful and abundant to the fishermen,” said Vasudev Bolar, Secretary of the Karnataka Mogaveera Kriya Samithi.
The ceremony began with a formal speech by the priests and the organisers, after which a procession was carried out to the Tannirbavi Beach.
The main ritual was performed at the beach, during which devotees along with the priests offered milk and fruits to the sea. (ANI)
